Sound it Out AND Radia

thursday 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Sound it Out is produced every two weeks in conjunction with the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation (IICSI). On the show we think, talk, listen and, yes, make sounds, in order to foreground how musical relationships institute and reflect social relationships. How can artistic practices expand our means for interpersonal recognition and respect? Tune in to CFRU to find out! * And every other week, CFRU brings you two recent episodes of the syndicated program Radia. Radia is a network of independent radio stations, who have a common interest in promoting and producing artworks for the radio, and in forming related projects based on broadcasting and cultural exchange. Radia members produce a weekly radio show that is broadcast by each of the member radio stations. The shows represent the local artistic community of each station, whilst at the same time these new works point to an emergent collective notion of self-determined art for radio.

Latin Waves
Sunset5

Latin Waves

friday 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm
hosted by Sylvia and Stuart Richardson

Syndicated through CJSF in Burnaby, BC. Latin Waves was born in 2005 when Sylvia Richardson’s passion for social change hit the radio air waves. The show was started as a resource to educate the public about the extraordinary changes and social movements that are happening in Latin America, there is a literal blackout in the Canadian main stream media around these historic changes. Shortly after the show started Stuart Richardson joined as co-producer channelling his passion into journalism and research, with such an overwhelming amount of critical news not being covered properly in the main stream media Latin Waves decided to open its spectrum. Our original mandate to cover Latin America still stands but we have expanded our coverage into local/national and international issues making those critical political connections, we bring our listeners in-depth coverage of issues with a focus on the history of an issue and what that history means for us today and most importantly what we can do to move society forward in a healthy way. In short our show is focused on building community across borders, positive social change has only come through communities of interest working together.
