CFRU staff will be on holiday from the end of the day on Friday, December 22, until Tuesday, January 2. As in years past, we’re looking for two fully trained volunteers to share the duties of monitoring programming, playing archives, doing fill-in shows as needed, doing occasional transmitter checks, and reporting any technical problems that may surface during the break.

If you’re going to be staying in the Guelph area over the holidays, would like to earn some money (a $750 honorarium is offered to each helper), and are interested in this temporary position, please let us know by noon on Monday, November 27. The individuals hired will be notified by Friday, December 1.

The Holiday Helpers will work from Saturday, December 23, to Monday, January 1 (excluding Christmas Day, when the building will be completely inaccessible) — 9 days in all, including weekends. There will also be a basic Holiday Helper orientation session in mid-December (specific dates to be determined).

We hope that both helpers will be generally available all throughout the holiday period, though we will not require the helpers to be at the station before 8 am or after 8 pm. The total time commitment for this position is somewhere in the vicinity of 45 hours (each) over the course of the 9 days. This is a fun position and is a great way to get to make lots of radio.

To apply, please contact Vish Khanna at cfru.admin@gmail.com or 519-824-4120 x53502. You can also contact Vish if you have any questions about the positions.

These positions are open to students and non-students alike. The hiring decision will be informed by CFRU’s equity mandate and policies, and preference will be given to people who have not held these positions in previous years (though applicants from previous years are welcome). If you would like to apply, please do so by email.

All applicants are welcome to fill out CFRU’s Employment Equity Self-Identification Form, available here. Please contact Vish if you have any problems accessing or completing this document.

Applicants will be considered by staff on the basis of:

1. Availability
2. Degree and range of volunteer experience at CFRU
3. Interest in doing a wide range of programming during the break (and fun ideas for that programming)
4. Proven commitment to CFRU and CRTC regulations

In your email, please indicate your availability over the break, provide highlights of your volunteer experiences at CFRU, and tell us a bit about the programming that you’d like to produce while you’re in this position! No resumé is necessary.
