Media Literacy Workshop

Want to become more media literate?

Wish you had stronger critical thinking skills?
Curious about alternative media?

Wish your high school curriculum was more “hands-on”?

  1. CFRU 93.3 FM has recently designed a comprehensive and interactive workshop promoting media literacy for high school students.

Our approach is interactive and allows for discussion and inquiry into the topics. It is designed for youth, by youth, and takes into account the diverse perspectives and backgrounds of students. This project is geared mainly towards students in grade 11 and 12 English and media studies courses, but is available to any instructors who feel it would complement their curriculum. This media literacy workshop is one hour in length with a focus on social media, critical thinking, and the historical context of media, and explores the ways in which students may participate as media-makers. Our goal is to present students with accessible, relevant material about media literacy, which they may use for further growth. We strive to promote interest and engagement in a variety of forms of community-based and global media.

  1. Students and teachers —if you feel your classroom could benefit from taking part in this workshop, or if you have further inquiries regarding this project, please contact CFRU’s Station Manager - cfru.admin@gmail.com.
